Koryo: Korean Fast Food Review

Koryo, a hip Korean fast food restaurant opened at the Sky Garden area of SM The Block and since I live in Quezon City, I had to try it. I described the restaurant as “Korean fast food” since the setup is very similar to other fast food places in the metro. Customers have to queue up and order their food “Kenny Rogers” style. Koryo offers traditional Korean grilled meats including Korean BBQ beef, BBQ chicken, breaded chicken and salmon. Of all the meats they offered, the liked the BBQ beef and salmon the best. My younger brother liked the BBQ chicken.

A Dinner Disaster
Bounty Fresh Chicken

Bounty Fresh Chicken Honey Butter Flavor

Last night, I had a major chicken dinner disaster. I cooked 2 Bounty Fresh Chicken Honey Butter flavor using my Turbo Broiler. I followed the instructions to the letter. However, after the suggested time elapsed, the chicken was uncooked. I decided to finish cooking the chickens in the microwave oven to cook the inside. It worked. However…when I tried it, it tasted sour.

“Is the chicken expired?”, I thought to myself. I looked at the best before information and it said 6/30/10 so it should not be spoiled.

Since I cooked 2 chickens, I tried the other one. Also sour. Also spoiled. That’s PhP 280.00 I’m not getting back!?! What a waste of money, time, electricity and effort!

Lesson learned: These ready-to-eat chickens must be kept in a heavy duty freezer or prepared right after purchase. My family ended up eating Jollibee food and Korean kimchi ramen for dinner. It broke my heart to throw food away but at the expense of my family’s health? Never!

Secret Recipe in the Philippines!

Posted by on Aug 27, 2007 in Food and Restaurant Reviews, Reviews | 0 comments

I visited Kuala Lumpur last month and one of the highlights of my trip was my visit to Secret Recipe. My host took me there to sample their award-winning Marble Cheesecake. After sampling 3 cheesecakes including Marble Cheesecake, Baked Cheesecake and Lemon Cheesecake, we all agreed that the Marble Cheesecake was the best.

Last Saturday, I saw the Philippine branch of Secret Recipe at the Fort. Right after seeing their sign, I shrieked and prodded my husband to sample their food. I wanted to see if the taste is the same as Secret Recipe Malaysia. I ordered the Marble Cheesecake (PhP100) and a cup of cappuccino. My husband ordered Blueberry Cheesecake. I am glad to report that the quality is the same. The picture you see here is from Malaysia.

Benefits of Yogurt

Lately, I’ve been having Nestle Yogurt for breakfast. So far, I had the peach and berry mix flavors. Can’t believe how good it tastes! There’s really a vast improvement from their former yogurt products and best of all, it has loads of calcium! Yum!

Squid Rings

“Just Improved!”

I saw this message on a pack of Squid Rings, a brand of snack food that I love. Naturally, I got a pack for myself. I was going to eat it during my movie night. To my absolute chagrin, the chips deteriorated in taste–another reminder that what we should not trust what we see in the packaging. In light of this, I’d like to share a passage from the Bible very much related to my chips experience.

1 Samuel 16:7
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (emphasis mine)

Indeed, the Lord does not look at our packaging or how we project ourselves to others. He looks at our hearts.
